Our projects reflect what matters most to local people...
getting around, reducing waste, supporting local businesses, and building a resilient local economy.
Some are in full swing, others are still taking shape...
all starting from the same question: what can we do together, here, in the Huon Valley?
Our online directory of local businesses and services committed to sustainable and circular practices. We are expanding listings, improving visibility, and working with local businesses to keep the Guide current and useful for everyday shoppers.
Community Transport Initiative
Following the Huon Valley Transport Forum in February 2026, CEH is coordinating a community-led effort to build an evidence base for better transport in the valley. This includes commissioning a planning-grade Travel and Access Profile — reliable data to support government decisions on routes, services, and funding.
CEH is a Recycle Rewards Donation Partner — so next time you return your containers, you can put those points to work in your own community. Donations through the scheme go directly towards events, presentations, and local initiatives.
Growing migration to the Huon Valley in 2025 has brought housing affordability back into sharp focus. CEH is exploring the challenges and opportunities this presents — from energy-efficient construction and transport access to practical strategies that could make a real difference for local residents.
CEH actively engages with Huon Valley Council, the Tasmanian Government, and national bodies on transport, waste policy, and circular economy planning. We have made formal submissions to the Productivity Commission and to Council, and we continue to represent community interests in planning conversations.
Roadside Stalls Project
A proposed extension of the Sustainable Consumer Guide, this initiative would connect locals and visitors with the Huon's farm-gate and roadside stalls through a live, interactive map showing stall locations and current produce availability.
We're seeking volunteer input to help shape the concept — get in touch if you'd like to be involved.
