Circular Economy Huon has applied for and been successful in a small grant from philanthropist John Hunter through his organisation 2a4. We will use this money to deliver a pilot project which will we hope will become a useful resource for Tasmanians and their businesses to minimise waste, improve waste recovery, and generally help us achieve become a more sustainable society.
Sabrina Burke created a similar program in Yeppoon in North Queensland, and a link to that pamphlet is here. She has been employed to create an online resource here for the use of Huon Valley residents and businesses. This resource promotes sustainable innovations and efforts by council, State Government, businesses, and communities and will contribute to us as a community using less resources, repairing and maintaining our assets, delivering less waste to our local transit centres and thus to landfill, and promoting waste recovery. It will hopefully be an incentive for all businesses in the valley to become more directed to using less and recycling more, in line with a circular economy.
This online resource will be hosted right here on our website and will be used to provide information to a regular column in the Huon Times and, if successful, will form a template for use by other communities throughout the State.
